The still increasing private motorisation results in unsustainable traffic congestion and air pollution cities and regions of central Europe. By designing and implementing trans-national, cross-border and national strategies the EU-Project BICY aims to achieve a widespread modal shift towards cycling and walking to improve the quality of life and reduce pollution. Many good Reasons for cycling

Cycling is a highly efficient mode of transportation and optimal for short to moderate distances. Compared to motor vehicles, bicycles, being human powered vehicles, have numerous benefits: Regular cycling provides exercise and thus improves health and life expectancy, it requires no fossil fuels but uses renewable energy and thus generates no air pollution, it reduces traffic congestion and minimises noise pollution… To give an overview of the manifold advantages of cycling the EU project TRENDY TRAVEL has compiled a brochure with 20 good reasons for cycling. “There is nothing like starting young!”

With this motto in mind kindergarten children are encouraged to take up cycling in the EU-project LIFECYCLE (www.lifecycle.cc). By emphasising the fun of physical exercise and the success of learning to cycle the program aims to trigger a strong and positive attachment to cycling and to make it part of a child’s daily activities. The EU-project BAMBINI starts a socialisation towards cycling and other soft modes of transport even earlier in life – after the birth. Read more...
